Getting started on some new mini landscapes. I wish this photo better demonstrated the similarity between the black paint I used and the burr from and intaglio print. It is such a rich black that I’m inspired to leave it alone to dry before applying anything else. Typically, when I work in fresco the first layer all but disappears, but this time I leaving it front and center, well maybe.

I walked past my studio this morning and realized something when I glanced inside. I have FINALLY embraced my life as a mom and an artist. For me, being an artist has always required alone time, materials, and a space to work. I used to feel a little selfish having any, or all of those things just for me create to artwork. At times I tried to do without, but then nothing was made. I’ve learned that having an abundance of anything allows me to give and continue giving. This also applies to my artwork and being creative is one way I choose to give. I’ve had numerous studios, or designated work spaces in my life, all of which came at some expense. I still remember sleeping with the smell of oil paintings drying next to my head in my apartment/studio, eating endless rice and beans to purchase materials, passing out in paint clothes because I only had time to paint after climbing scaffolding all day and then working a late shift at a restaurant. These are sterotypical pictures one might have of an artist.
A baby changes everything.
Now, I keep the stroller in my studio. Paint when he decides to take a nap. I have mastered the art of keeping him out of my supplies with my leg.
I have never been more creative in my life.
I’ve collected some of my favorite clouds for this sky ceiling. On this project I collaborated with the designer and client to come up with the style and color palette. We were going for Renaissance, but happy. Check out the before, during, and after shots!
Yes, crusty paint clothes and scaffolding!
The egg and dart crown with gold embellishments and mushroom colored walls are going to really set off this sky blue!
Every now and then you have a client with a sense of humor. As someone that enjoys laughing and has a satiric sense of humor, often laughing at inappropriate times, then laughing about the fact that I am laughing, this scope of work was awesome. This media room project with O’Neill Studios was creative, stylish, and funny. The client provided movie quotes, which I then formatted in photoshop and sent off to have custom modello’s made. A modello is basically I giant stencil sticker. Artist Brittany Sims and I painstakingly chose the perfect placement for each quote and she stenciled them in using the base coat color at 50%. This is a great way for the paint shop to mix a lighter version of a color you like. Just remember that 25% of a color is the lightest verses 75%, which is closest to the original. Ok, enough of that serious talk, take a look at these.
